ACTING PRINCIPAL'S TALANOA
Moana Iese
Kia ora koutou, talofa lava and warm greetings to our Weymouth Community, Parents, Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles, Cousins and our beautiful Tamariki.
NEW TO WEYMOUTH PRIMARY SCHOOL
A special welcome to all 80 new children and their families who have joined our WPS whānau this year. We look forward to working alongside you to support your child's schooling journey. You would have met with either myself, Mrs Miers or Whaea Danielle on enrolment and discussed some key information regarding our school, such as, our Staff, our Pastoral Care, our Concerns and Complaints procedures, but most importantly about our Vision (Strive for the Best), our Values (Respect and Honesty), and our Weymouth Way. If you have any further questions about our school, please don't hesitate to contact the class teacher or the office for further information.
We'd also like to welcome new staff, Lilian Yong and Rosa Patea who have joined our WPS whānau as Weymouth Angels (Support Staff). Thank you for choosing our school to support our kaiako and tamariki.
WALKING SAFELY TO AND FROM SCHOOL
An incident was reported yesterday afternoon to the police regarding one of our students being approached by a vehicle with two occupants. Please talk with your child/ren about keeping safe when walking to and from school. Our teachers will also talk to our children about walking safely. An excerpt from the NZ Police - Keeping Ourselves Safe: We're all responsible for keeping children safe in our families and communities. It's also important for children to know how to identify unsafe behaviour and what to do if they feel unsafe. We encourage parents and other caregivers to talk to children about what inappropriate behaviour and actions look like, rather than the 'types of people' that could cause harm.
MEET AND GREET
Many thanks to all our wonderful families that attended our 'Meet and Greet' on Tuesday. It was lovely to see many of our students with their parents, caregivers and siblings. We hope that you had some time to have a chat with your child's teacher and be shown around their classroom. If you participated in the 'Wayfinder Hunt' you would have had an opportunity to explore our school and see all the wonderful places that your child gets to learn in. Congratulations to our lucky prize draw winners who took home prizes such as books, Pak'n'Save vouchers, snack packs, and a prize that contained veges and honey all homegrown in our māra . We would like to thank our Social Worker in School, Ana Tukia, for attending, and the following community groups: The Pride Project, Early Discoveries ECE, Weymouth Rugby Club, Te Matariki Clendon Library, William & Stanley STEAM Academy, NZ Modern Music Academy (Piano Lessons). We hope that you were able to connect with them and find out more about their services.
SAIL SHADES AROUND THE SCHOOL
We are currently having sail shades installed over each of our playgrounds, outside Room 8 and outside Rooms 10, 11, 12. These will provide added sun protection for our children as they play, particularly during the summer months.
LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES FOR OUR SENIOR STUDENTS
Last week Mrs Hodge lead an assembly for our seniors to have the opportunity to hear about the Leadership roles we have at our school. Our students were encouraged to think about which roles they would like to apply for, discuss their options with their families and teacher. Mrs Hodge will be leading an assembly this Friday 1 March at 11.30am to announce our leaders.
CONCERNS AND COMPLAINTS PROCEDURES
Please familiarise yourself with our Concerns and Complaints Procedures. This helps all involved to know who to go to when we have a concern, helps to resolve a problem quickly before it escalates, encourages good decision making, and reassures you that we are committed to resolving the problem. Sometimes a problem requires further investigation, particularly if it involves other children. Please understand that this may take a little time, but we will endeavour to keep you updated with the process. Thank you for your cooperation.
Have a wonderful weekend everybody.
