ACTING PRINCIPAL'S TALANOA
Moana Iese
Kia ora koutou, talofa lava and warm greetings to our Weymouth Community, Parents, Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles, Cousins and our beautiful Tamariki.
Alu ā, Malo Aupito, Farewell
Farewell to our amazing teacher Miss Lalueni Fuapoivaha. Today we held a special assembly for Miss Fuapoivaha, farewelling her in good old WPS fashion - lots of singing, lots of dancing, lots of kind words of gratitude and appreciation, and with lots of tears. Miss Fuapoivaha is sad to be leaving us, but excited to be going to Sutton Park School where she will be teaching in a Tongan Bilingual Unit. We wish her all the very best with her new role and will miss her dearly.
New staff to Weymouth Primary School
Next term we welcome Mrs Emily Reid to Room 15 and our WPS whānau. Mrs Reid has been working in our school for the last month, relieving in different classrooms and getting to know our students and staff. Her two children have also joined our school. We hope that you enjoy being part of our school and we look forward to getting to know you and your family better.
Year 4 and Year 5 - Purchase your own Chromebook
Today a notice went home with our Year 4 and Year 5 students with the opportunity to purchase their own chromebook. Please read over the information provided, or on our school website. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact the school office or Whaea Moana.
So far we have had 19 families take this opportunity and on Wednesday we held a special assembly and presented 19 students with their own chromebook! We hope to have all our Year 4-6 students with their own devices by 2026.
Principals Award Lucky Draw Lunch with Whaea Moana
Every week teachers choose one student to receive the Principal’s Award. I am privileged to then be able to visit each class and present these awards personally to each recipient. At the end of each term, one lucky student from each class who has received a Principal’s Award gets to come and have lunch with me. Today we had yummy pizza, sat and chat while we ate together. Congratulations to all our students who have received a Principal Award this term and I look forward to seeing more receiving awards next term. Strive for the Best. Work hard.
Talanoa Ako 2024
This term we had 24 parents/caregivers take part in our Talanoa Ako Programme. Talanoa Ako is a Pacific parent education programme that aims to help parents, families and communities with the skills, knowledge, and confidence they need to champion their children’s education. This is achieved over 10 one-hour sessions, and extra time afterwards to eat together and talanoa further together. This year, we have had 21 families participate in this programme, with 24 participants. Thank you to all our amazing parents and caregivers who took part. Thank you to Miss B and Miss K for looking after the children during these sessions. Thank you to Whaea Danielle, Mrs Miers, Miss Petersen, Preetika Krishnan, Jo Rose Kerrison and Rajeev Singh for supporting the programme. We look forward to hosting this programme again in 2025!
